Baseball is not a game of strength - It's a game of Power. Think about it, a baseball is only 5ozs. The baseball Bat is 30ozs. But... try throwing throwing that 5oz ball 60ft feet and at a speed over 90 mph. Or how about hitting that 5oz ball that is being thrown at you at 90 mph and hit that ball over 400 feet.
To be able to perform like this each and every inning takes a lot of power and indurance.
The game of baseball can be slow paced at times. It is the fast exciting plays that makes the game of baseball so exciting. Being able to perform quickly at any given second during a game takes your training to a new level.
If you want to succeed in the wonderful game of baseball then you must train for speed and conditioning. Did you know that Major League baseball Pitching Coaches have their pitchers run at a long slow pace everyday. Or they will have the pitchers ride a stationary bike for long periods of time at a slower consistent pace.
Most Major League baseball Pitching Coaches believe that by training this way it helps with conditioning and performance. Which in turn they hope this will help with the Pitchers performance.
Studies have been done and proven that although this is a good cardio workout for your body it is that the best method in which to train as a great baseball player.
Basically, If you Want to decrease your power, strength and speed, then just keep training using those long slow distance training techniques.

As I said earlier, baseball can have its slow moments, but it does have those explosive fast moments that keep us on our toes. So its important to train the right way way before the season even starts.
If you want to out perform your competition then you need to train on Power, Speed and flexibility development.

To get started in your new training start out by lifting weights, flexibility, short sprint bursts, and interval training should be the foundation for conditioning when training to be a Great baseball Player.
